Because of a tradition of having a large America armed forces presence in the Philippines, it’s not surprising many U.S. veterans are retiring to Dumaguete
There is a solid and increasing number of American veterans who have decided not to return to America and retire. Many have Filipino wives and families here before they retire. These families may want to go to America for university education later in life, but most prefer to be raised here in the Philippines and in its strong extended family environment. Also, the overall cost of education and general living is small compared to America.
Many veterans take advantage of the opportunity for further education at universities such as Silliman in Dumaguete where then can attend and graduate at no personal cost.
Some veterans also because of their often relatively young age, decide to start a new small business with their family involved.
These are some, but not all, of the reasons why veterans wisely decide retiring to Dumaguete is a good choice. It makes sense for so many reasons that it’s impossible to ignore its wisdom.
