One of the many reasons why people are retiring to Dumaguete is the vibrant culture that prevails. Because it has five universities and colleges, young student community energy permeates throughout the city.

Creativity flourishes in many venues throughout the city. Small art galleries have displays of indigenous and local art that visitors and residents are attracted to.

Silliman University, which has been educating Filipinos and foreigners for over a century, has extensive creative art, theater, and musical events, happening throughout the year. It’s Writers Week annually attracts established Filipino writers who mentor upcoming Filipino creative writers and poets.

It’s true when it’s said that Dumaguete is the center of cultural activity in the Visayas. It’s a well-earned reputation that has been built on from almost a century of cultural activity.
